It's finally "done", the 701 wing repair/extension was completed a couple of nghts ago, but I'm just getting to the blog now.  Here's a quick update of what happened Thursday night to finish it off.
Picture
Hard to see in the picture, but the template was traced onto the root skin and cut out, leaving about a centimetre of over size - easier to trim it back than start over!

The intial layout looks good. We decided to overlap a bit more near the trailing edge, that way it will pick up the last trailing edge rib as well as replace some of the horrible trailing edge holes drilled by the original builder. You can already see the complexity of the curve in this picture.

Before closing up the root nose, I inserted a rubbert grommet for the nav light wires to prevent chafing. These are now secured and waiting to be connected when the wings are attached to the fuselage

With the top side cleco'd in place and awaiting final rivets, we flipped the wing over one last time to make rolling the noseskin over easier. This a a really tight curve and takes a lot of trimming to get a good fit
Picture
A bit of an odd perspective. I was taking a break and resting my arms! Lying on my back getting ready to rivet - This is the upper surface of the wing root, looking up towards the ceiling from the shop floor!

The last cleco left to be removed for rivet......

....and there it was.....
Picture
....GONE!! The 701 wing repair/extension is officially complete!

Off the table and to be prepped for storage.  Ron and I will add some plastic sheeting wrap over the ends to keep any birds out while it's stored in the barn.

I'm so glad to be done this repair/extension, but I can't deny how much I've learned.  Now the table is clear and I can focus can be on building my 750!

Stay tuned more to come!
